Used Catalytic Converters for Cars

At Autodesguaces Alicante we carry a full stock of tested second-hand catalytic converters for diesel and petrol engines, with a 1-year warranty and delivery in 24-48h. The catalytic converter turns polluting gases (CO, HC, NOx) into harmless ones (CO2, N2, H2O) through chemical reactions with precious metals (platinum, palladium, rhodium): when the internal ceramic substrate melts or breaks, the car fails the ITV (Spanish MOT) on emissions and loses power.

Every catalytic converter undergoes an internal visual inspection with a borescope to check that the substrate is intact, with no fragments or build-up restricting the gas flow. We have been an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) since 2019 and all our catalytic converters are fit to pass the ITV.

Types of catalytic converter available

Signs of a failed catalytic converter

• Loss of power and limp mode (blocked catalytic converter).
• Rotten egg smell (sulphur) from the exhaust.
• Rattling noise when the catalytic converter is gently tapped.
• ITV failure due to high emissions.
• Fault codes P0420, P0430 (catalyst efficiency below threshold).
