More about used spark plugs for cars

Over 581+ spark plugs and glow plugs with delivery across Spain

At Autodesguaces Alicante we have a full stock of spark plugs for petrol engines and glow plugs for diesel engines, with a 1-year warranty and 24-48h delivery. We stock iridium, platinum and nickel spark plugs from the leading manufacturers: NGK, Bosch, Denso, Champion and Beru.

Spark plugs and glow plugs are routine service parts: when they wear out, the engine loses power, uses more fuel and produces more emissions. On modern diesel engines, a seized glow plug can end up snapping off in the cylinder head, turning a simple job into a costly repair.

Types of spark plugs and glow plugs

  • Spark plugs with nickel, platinum and iridium electrodes.
  • Spark plugs for TSI, TFSI and EcoBoost engines and other turbo petrol engines.
  • Spark plugs for naturally aspirated engines MPI, GDI and indirect injection.
  • Low-voltage ceramic diesel glow plugs (4.4V, 5V, 7V).
  • Traditional metal diesel glow plugs (11V, 12V).
  • HT leads and individual ignition coils.

When to replace spark plugs or glow plugs

Nickel spark plugs are replaced every 30,000-40,000 km, and platinum and iridium ones every 60,000-100,000 km. Diesel glow plugs are replaced when there are cold-start problems, white smoke on start-up or when the glow plug warning light stays on permanently.

Frequently asked questions about spark plugs

How often should a car's spark plugs be changed?

It depends on the type: nickel spark plugs every 30,000-40,000 km, platinum ones every 60,000 km and iridium ones every 90,000-100,000 km. It is always best to follow the manufacturer's recommendations in the vehicle's service schedule.

Can spark plugs of different brands be mixed in the same engine?

It is not recommended. All spark plugs should be identical (same manufacturer, same part number and same heat range) so that combustion is even across all cylinders. Mixing brands can cause misfires and the engine warning light to come on.

Why do diesel glow plugs fail?

Diesel glow plugs fail due to thermal wear and corrosion: every cold start produces heating cycles that, over the years, degrade the internal heating element. The quality of the diesel fuel and the condition of the injectors also play a part.

Is it difficult to replace diesel glow plugs?

On most engines it is not difficult, but there is a risk that a seized glow plug will snap off inside the cylinder head. We recommend applying penetrating oil and loosening them carefully with the engine warm, or taking the car to a specialist garage if they have never been changed.
