The catalytic converter turns polluting gases (CO, HC, NOx) into harmless ones (CO2, N2, H2O) through chemical reactions with precious metals (platinum, palladium, rhodium): when the internal ceramic substrate melts or breaks, the car fails the ITV (Spanish MOT) on emissions and loses power.
Every catalytic converter undergoes an internal visual inspection with a borescope to check that the substrate is intact, with no fragments or build-up restricting the gas flow. We have been an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) since 2019 and all our catalytic converters are fit to pass the ITV.
